Penguins Offer Jagr 1-Year Deal
The Penguins have offered Jaromir Jagr a one-year deal and the 39-year-old winger has until Wednesday to decide if he wants to take it, GM Ray Shero told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Tuesday.
Jagr Appears To Have Options
Jaromir Jagr appears NHL-bound and it's only a question of which team he'll sign with, his agent told ESPN.com on Tuesday morning.
Agent Petr Svoboda said Pittsburgh, Detroit "plus another team I can't name" are the three options for his veteran client.
"We have to make a decision soon," Svoboda said from the Czech Republic.
Nashville's Weber Under Arbitration
The Predators have filed for arbitration with star defenseman Shea Weber, according to a source.
The move likely ensures Weber will be with the team for the start of the 2011-12 season. Weber is set to become a restricted free agent July 1.
Devils, Parise File For Arbitration
The Devils have filed for arbitration with restricted free agent Zach Parise.
New Jersey president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said Friday the NHL team made the move to protect its rights, adding it will continue to work to sign the star left wing to a long-term contract.
"He knows that," Lamoriello said. "Everything has been amicable as far as the talks. We will continue to work toward a long-term agreement."
The move means that Parise, who earned $5 million last season, will be awarded a one-year contract in arbitration and become unrestricted July 1, 2012, unless he reaches a new deal with New Jersey.
Flyers, Bryzgalov's Agent Talk
The Flyers have met with the agent for goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov and will do so again.
No deal is in place as of yet.
Philadelphia last week acquired the rights to Bryzgalov in a deal with Phoenix.
"We have spoken with Ilya and his agent Ritch Winter about many different scenarios," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "As for now, we both know each other's position and have agreed to speak again next week. There will be no further comment at this time."
Ladd, Thrashers Talk But No Deal Near
Andrew Ladd, who was anointed captain by the Thrashers last November, becomes a restricted free-agent on July 1.
He raved about Winnipeg, spoke highly of the blueprint of general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and owner Mark Chipman.
"(The visit) came together in the last five or so days," Ladd said. "I just wanted to come in and meet everybody and see where everything was going, talk with management and get their vision and then provide the guys with a better understanding of what's going on, too."
Stamkos May Cost Lightning $7M Annually
The Lightning are expected to sign Steven Stamkos to a new contract by July 1.
"Stamkos, 21, who has a league-best 96 goals the past two seasons, will likely cost about $7 million a season," writes Damian Cristodero of The St. Petersburg Times.
He will be a restricted free agent if not signed by July 1 and Tampa Bay could match any outside offer.
Hejda, Jackets Working On Contract
The Blue Jackets and Jan Hejda are currently working on a new contract.
The two sides have remained in touch, but there is nothing serious on the horizon.
Hejda, a defender, had five goals and 15 assists during the 2010 season.
Dubinsky Looking For $4.5M Annually
Soon-to-be free agent Brandon Dubinsky is seeking a multi-year contract worth $4.5 million, according to a source.
Larry Brooks of The New York Post writes that he isn't going to get it from the Rangers, especially since Sabres winger Drew Stafford just signed a four-year, $16 million contract.
Will Richards Cost Too Much For Rangers?
The Rangers are considered the front-runners to sign Brad Richards this summer, but he may turn out to be too expensive for them.
Larry Brooks of The New York Post writes that more than one source has indicated that Richards will be looking for a contract worth at least $7 million annually.
Brooks added that Richards has no plans to sign for a discount in order to reunite with coach John Tortorella, who he won a Stanley Cup with in Tampa Bay (2004).
If a five-year contract worth $6.5 million annually isn't enough for Richards, the Rangers may be forced to act on a second plan.
Stars, Richards Parting Ways
The Stars will not make a contract offer to Brad Richards, who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
